The First Assistant is the lead technical and operational force on set, responsible for ensuring that every production operates with precision, efficiency, and creative fluidity. This role demands advanced photographic knowledge, foresight, and the ability to lead calmly under pressure. You will work in direct collaboration with SHAMAYIM, supporting high-level fashion, editorial, and commercial productions across studio and location environments, both domestically and internationally.

This position is not entry-level. It is designed for assistants who already understand the rigor, pace, and expectations of top-tier fashion productions and are ready to operate as a trusted right hand on set.

Core Responsibilities

Pre-Production & Technical Leadership

• Lead all technical preparation prior to shoot days, including gear planning, equipment testing, and location readiness

• Translate creative direction into precise technical execution, ensuring lighting and capture systems support the intended visual narrative

• Conduct thorough pre-lighting and troubleshoot potential technical issues before they arise

On-Set Execution

• Execute setup and breakdown of all lighting systems, modifiers, grip equipment, tethers, client monitors, and capture stations

• Maintain full responsibility for digital workflow and file integrity throughout the shoot (Capture One proficiency strongly preferred)

• Monitor power management, battery rotation, cable safety, and overall set logistics to maintain uninterrupted shooting

• Act as the technical authority on set, making swift adjustments to lighting, exposure, and systems as needed

Set & Team Coordination

• Work seamlessly with stylists, models, hair and makeup artists, producers, and talent to ensure smooth set operations

• Maintain a professional, composed presence that supports both creative focus and production efficiency

• Step in as a point of coordination when necessary to keep the shoot on schedule

Logistics & Operations

• Drive and transport crew, equipment, or production assets when required

• Maintain impeccable organization of all gear, studio spaces, and production areas

• Ensure studios and locations are left in pristine condition after every shoot

Creative Support

• Capture high-quality behind-the-scenes content during every production, documenting process, atmosphere, and key moments for archival and promotional use

• Anticipate SHAMAYIM’s needs without instruction, offering solutions before problems present themselves

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years experience assisting on professional fashion, editorial, or commercial photography sets

• Advanced understanding of lighting systems, including both strobe and continuous lighting (Profoto and Broncolor experience strongly preferred)

• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage tight timelines and complex productions

• Confidence working in both controlled studio environments and unpredictable outdoor locations

• Availability for national and international travel

• Physically capable of long production days, equipment handling, and fast-paced set environments
