SHADAI Magazine — Spring / Summer 2027
XAYMACA
July 24-28
Portland Parish Jamaica
The editorial should reject the idea of Jamaica as a destination and instead present it as a living cosmology. This is not a tourism campaign, nor nostalgia. It is an exploration of Jamaica as a place where landscape, ancestry, spirituality, mythology, and everyday life exist simultaneously.
The title XAYMACA (derived from the Taíno name often interpreted as "land of wood and water") becomes both a geographic reference and a spiritual one. The island itself is the protagonist. The model is not a visitor, celebrity, or outsider. She belongs to the island. She moves through it with complete familiarity, as though every river knows her name.
Rather than portraying her as an overt supernatural being, the editorial suggests that divinity is simply another state of everyday existence.
Everything should feel observed rather than staged.
Visual Philosophy
Imagine if someone discovered an unfinished fashion film by a legendary filmmaker.
Every frame feels accidental.
Someone looked up at exactly the right moment.
A fisherman pauses.
Children run behind her.
Rain begins unexpectedly.
She disappears into bamboo.
The audience never knows whether they're watching documentary or mythology.
Cinematic References
The pacing should resemble:
poetic Caribbean cinema
slow observational filmmaking
Wong Kar-wai's intimacy
Barry Jenkins' tenderness

Nothing feels "fashion posed."
Everything feels lived.

Wardrobe Language
Wardrobe should never overpower Jamaica.
Luxury should feel inherited.
Think:
washed silk
handwoven cotton
open knits
linen dresses
sculptural draping
raffia accessories
leather sandals
barefoot moments
antique gold jewelry
shell details
fabrics constantly moving with wind
The styling should suggest someone who dresses beautifully because beauty is normal.
Hair & Beauty
Natural textured hair.
Sometimes braided.
Sometimes loose after swimming.
Sometimes wrapped.
Minimal makeup.
Sweat.
Humidity.
Salt.
Rain.
Glowing skin.
Nothing cosmetic should overpower natural beauty.
